If you are on the real bureau thread (the one that comes from chosing to help them arrest that guy) then you are on the ONLY thread that lets you be a 'bad guy'. Thus you can chose whether to fire it or not, and it doesn't pointlessly fire when you are try to hit things at long range with rail guns (say). It just puts the ion cannon(s) on the list of secondary, rather than primary, weapons. As I see it it's just fixing a stupid aspect of the game mechanics.Īnd while you are at it, if you are an Ion Cannon user then maybe get the Secondary Ion Cannon pluggin too. It's not really cheating, since the missions are all very easy anyway. It has the effect of making it so that you only need to do one of each type of job (i.e. I suggest downloading the "Rush from Merrol" pluggin from this page. Sometimes it seems to go really quickly and sometimes it seems to stall. That is a famously annoying part of the plot thread - and in fact about 4 of the main threads manage to find a reason for you to do that rebel "food/then equipment/then rescue spies/then insert spies" sequence.
